Having been on the receiving end of too many emails about Jeff Walker’s Product Launch Formula I sense a sort of affiliate panic out there.

It’s a big ticket item and so affiliates are falling over themselves desperately trying to make sure that their email is the one that generates the sale.  I’m using it as an opportunity to trim down my subscriptions.

Smart affiliate marketers are loading up the deal with bonuses of their own too - buy through me, they say, and I’ll give you $14,566,095 of bonuses.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m certain that the Product Launch Formula 2.0 is good - but then again, it must be safe to assume the Jeff is using it to launch his new product himself. He’d be mad not to wouldn’t he?

So if you are bored of all the promos, go back through the emails you’ve had about it, watch the free videos and make some notes. You’ll end up with a reasonable product launch formula yourself - free.

It won’t be as good as the real deal but it will be one heck of a lot better than nothing.

First, what is DealDotCom? It’s a free-to-join membership website that will sell internet marketing products at a discount. People with internet marketing products will take them to DealDotCom and offer them at substantial discounts. DealDotCom will then offer these products to its membership and take a commission on all sales.

That commission will be shared with its affiliates who will make money on a 2-tier basis. If someone you refer to DealDotCom makes a purchase, you get 35% of the commission. If someone you referred to DealDotCom refers someone else to DealDotCom and they make a purchase, you get 15% of the commission.

So the key questions are: how much could you make and is it worth getting involved?

Let’s make an educated guess at some numbers.

Suppose a product sells for $30 instead of $67 and that the vendor offers a 50% commission. DealDotCom will make $15 a sale.

1st tier affiliates will make $5.25 and 2nd tier affiliates will make $2.25.

Assuming a conversion rate of 2% which is slightly above the norm but could be expected because of the steep discount, and assuming you have 200 people below you who you’ve referred, 50 at tier 1 and 150 at tier 2, how much money would you make?

Total sales to your downline would be 4 units: 2% of 200. 1 of these would make you $5.25. The other 3 would make you $6.75 (3 x $2.25). Total income therefore would be $12.

Now if DealDotCom intends to announce deals daily our estimate is that you would make around $4,300 a year in this situation. Not bad.

To achieve this sort of income you’ll need to do 2 things: sign up with DealDotCom which you can do via this link http://www.dealdotcom.com and start promoting it.

But let me also deal with the question of discounts. Why would a product vendor be prepared to offer such a big discount to DealDotCom?

The answer is because of DealDotCom’s distribution power. It is highly likely to be able to drive large amounts of sales because it is building a huge network of people in its database who are known to be interested in internet marketing products. Most internet marketing products are information products and hence the cost of delivery and production is effectively zero which means that all revenues are profits. All a product vendor has to do is consider how much revenue he/she is losing by not promoting via DealDotCom before deciding to make the site a promotional offer it can’t refuse.

And we all benefit because products then become available at lower prices.

Looking back over a number of years of product creation and product selling, it is clear to me that the three most profitable things you can do to grow your own information-based online business are

  1. Create good quality information products with a known market
  2. Establish good relationships with a wide range of JV partners in those markets
  3. Write effective sales pages for your products

You do need to master some of the basics of selling things online: setting up order processing systems, product delivery systems and registration systems to capture the contact details of people who are interested in or who have bought your products but this is just the plumbing of the internet and many sites exist to help you along the way.

Once you’ve sorted the plumbing out, building a portfolio of products and working with JV partners is the best thing to do. JV partners are always looking for good products to sell to their lists to make easy commission from so if you approach them with a sensible proposal that really is “win win” you’ll both win.

Of course, a poor product will destroy a JV relationship for two reasons: too many refunds will slash commission payments and at the same time will erode the standing of your partner in the eyes of his subscribers which will make it harder for him to sell anything when he next sends out an email.

So focus on good quality product creation and then take those good quality products to people with lists.

That then leads onto effective sales pages and the most productive method of sorting this out is to study pages that you know to be successful and copy their style. Then you need to test alternatives: try changing the headline, the images, the body copy, the order link, the guarantee, the font, the font colour. Everything.

But people don’t because they can’t be bothered. Yet testing is where you can make half of your money.

I’m using a testing system on my blog email alert site where I sell a video course that shows you how to send out email alerts every time you update your blog. The system tries out different combinations of the key elements in the sales page and uses conversion statistics to work out which combination is the most profitable. It then starts to show that highest profit combination more of the time.

The outcome of this is that the conversion rate for my site will increase over time. The stronger it gets, the more my JV partners will be interested in promoting my video course and the more money we will all make.
